Stromectol is an antiparasitic medication effective against:
- Onchocerciasis (river blindness)
- Strongyloidiasis (intestinal roundworm infection)
- Certain other parasitic infestations
It works by paralyzing and killing susceptible parasites.
Dosage & Administration
- Take orally with water on an empty stomach
- Dosage is weight-based (typically 150-200 mcg/kg)
- Some infections require repeat dosing after 1-2 weeks
- Complete all prescribed doses even if symptoms improve
- Attend all follow-up appointments for effectiveness evaluation
Important Precautions
- May cause dizziness/drowsiness - avoid driving or hazardous activities
- Rise slowly to prevent orthostatic hypotension
- Increased caution required in:
- Patients with loiasis (Loa loa infection)
- Those recently in West/Central Africa
- Children <15 kg (33 lbs)
Seek immediate medical attention for:
- Neurological symptoms (confusion, seizures, weakness)
