Description
Antabuse (disulfiram) is a medication used to support alcohol addiction treatment by creating unpleasant reactions when alcohol is consumed. It works by blocking alcohol metabolism, causing nausea, vomiting and other discomfort if alcohol is ingested.
Usage instructions: . Can be taken with or without food . May be swallowed whole, chewed or crushed . Wait at least 12 hours after drinking alcohol before first dose . If dose is missed, take when remembered unless close to next dose . Never take double doses
Storage requirements: . Keep at room temperature (20-25°C) . Protect from heat, light and moisture . Store away from children and pets
Important contraindications: . Allergy to disulfiram or similar medications . Current alcohol intoxication . Severe heart conditions . Psychotic disorders . Concurrent use with metronidazole or alcohol-containing medications
Medical precautions: . Inform doctor about all health conditions including diabetes, thyroid issues, liver/kidney problems . Disclose all medications and supplements being taken . Avoid alcohol in any form (beverages, medicines, personal care products) . May cause drowsiness - use caution when driving . Can interact with blood thinners, seizure medications and certain antibiotics

Special considerations: . Medical/dental providers should be informed about Antabuse use . Regular blood tests may be required . Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding . Alcohol reactions may occur for up to 2 weeks after stopping medication
