Description
Aricept (donepezil) is prescribed for treating dementia symptoms in Alzheimer's disease patients. As a cholinesterase inhibitor, it works by boosting acetylcholine levels in the brain to help improve cognitive function.
Take Aricept orally each evening at bedtime, with or without food. Maintain a consistent dosing schedule for optimal results. If a dose is missed, take it when remembered unless close to the next dose - never double doses. Consult your doctor if multiple doses are missed, as you may need to restart at a lower dose.
Store at room temperature (15-30°C/59-86°F) away from light and moisture. Keep out of children's reach.
Contraindications include allergy to donepezil or other components. Exercise caution with certain heart conditions, gastrointestinal disorders, respiratory issues, or neurological problems. Potential drug interactions exist with NSAIDs, other cholinergic agents, anticholinergics, and certain anticonvulsants.
Common side effects may include nausea, diarrhea, dizziness, and sleep disturbances. Serious reactions requiring immediate medical attention include allergic responses, gastrointestinal bleeding, cardiac abnormalities, and neurological symptoms.
Aricept may cause drowsiness - use caution when driving or operating machinery. Not approved for pediatric use. Consult your doctor regarding use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
